Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-charter-cost/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** Chartering a private jet typically costs from around £2,000 to £3,000 per flying hour for a small jet, rising to £6,000 to £8,000 per hour and more for a large or long-range jet. You pay for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The final price depends on the aircraft, the flying time, where the aircraft has to come from and the airports used, so every trip is quoted individually. **Key facts** - Small jets: from around £2,000–£3,000 per flying hour, as a guide. - Large and long-range jets: £6,000–£8,000 per flying hour and upwards. - The price is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. - A Charter-A quote is one inclusive figure: aircraft, crew, fuel, and standard landing and handling fees. - Empty legs are often 25 to 75 per cent cheaper, on one-way flights whose route and timing are fixed. - No membership, account or minimum spend is needed. ### What does a private jet cost per hour? Charter prices are built on the flying hour, and the hourly rate rises with the size of the aircraft. As a guide, the market ranges for 2026 are: | Aircraft | Guide rate per flying hour | | --- | --- | | [Light jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/light-jets/) (4–6 passengers) | €1,800–€4,000 | | [Midsize jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/midsize-jets/) (6–8 passengers) | €3,500–€7,000 | | [Super-midsize](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/super-midsize-jets/) and [heavy jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/heavy-jets/) (8–14 passengers) | €6,500–€12,000 | | [Ultra-long-range jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/ultra-long-range-jets/) and VIP airliners | €12,000–€25,000 and more | Approximate market ranges for 2026, in euros, as published in Charter-A’s guide to charter costs. They are a guide, not a quotation: the price of your trip depends on the aircraft available on your dates. At the lower end, [very light jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/very-light-jets/) have the lowest hourly cost of any jet, and on a short flight a [turboprop](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/turboprops/) costs less again. ### What does a typical trip cost? The hourly rate is only part of the picture, because a trip also carries airport fees and the cost of bringing the aircraft to you. Guide estimates for whole trips in 2026: | Trip | Aircraft | Guide price | | --- | --- | --- | | London to Paris, one way | Light jet | About €3,500–€8,000 | | London to Munich and back | Midsize jet | About €8,000–€18,000, including handling and overnight fees | | London to Dubai, one way | Heavy or long-range jet | €45,000–€120,000 | | A short European flight of one to two hours | Depends on the size | €3,000–€15,000 | The spread in each line reflects the aircraft model, the airports chosen, the season and where the aircraft has to fly in from. Your quote is the real figure. ### What decides the price? - **The aircraft.** Larger, faster and longer-range aircraft cost more per hour. The simplest saving is the smallest aircraft that does the job comfortably — see [which size of private jet do I need?](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/which-size-private-jet/) - **The flying time.** A longer flight costs more, in the same way as on an airline. - **Positioning.** If the aircraft is not based where you start, it has to fly in empty, and may fly home empty afterwards. One-way trips can carry that cost; a return with a short stay is often better value, because the aircraft waits for you. - **The airports.** Landing, handling and parking fees differ from airport to airport, and the busiest hubs charge the most. - **Time on the ground.** If the aircraft and crew stay overnight, their overnight costs are part of the price. - **The date and the notice.** Summer weekends to the Mediterranean, the ski season in the Alps and major events push prices up, and a very late request narrows the choice of aircraft. ### Is the price per person or for the whole aircraft? For the whole aircraft. A charter is not priced per seat: the number of passengers matters only because it decides which size of aircraft you need. Filling the seats therefore brings the cost per person down. For illustration, a flight quoted at €6,000 works out at €1,000 each for six passengers. ### How can I pay less? The largest saving is an **empty leg**: a flight an aircraft has to make anyway, without passengers, to reach its next booking or return to base. Empty legs are often 25 to 75 per cent below the standard charter price. The price of that saving is flexibility: empty legs are one-way, their route and timing are fixed by the original booking, and they can move or disappear if that booking changes. Where an empty leg does not match your journey exactly, Charter-A can sometimes re-route it, saving up to 50 per cent. See [empty leg flights from the UK](https://charter-private-jet.com/empty-legs/) for the popular routes and how to be alerted when one matches. - Be flexible on the date and the departure time. - Take the smallest aircraft that fits your party and luggage. - Consider a smaller business airport nearby: fees are usually lower and the turnaround quicker. - Book a return rather than two one-way flights when the stay is short. - Book peak dates early, while there is still a choice of aircraft. ### What does the price include? A Charter-A quote is one fully inclusive figure covering the aircraft and crew, fuel, and standard landing and handling fees, with light snacks and a bar on board. The few things that can be extra — de-icing in winter, special catering, cars — are set out in [what is included in the price of a private jet charter](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/what-is-included-in-private-jet-charter-price/). ### How do I get an exact price? Tell us the route, the date and the number of passengers. A Charter-A specialist checks which aircraft are available and replies with suitable options, each with one fully inclusive price. Quotes are free and without obligation, and our operations team answers 24 hours a day on +44 (0)20 7781 8094. ### More questions **How much is a private jet per hour in the UK?** As a guide, from around £2,000 to £3,000 per flying hour for a small jet and £6,000 to £8,000 per hour and upwards for a large or long-range jet. The 2026 market ranges are roughly €1,800–€4,000 an hour for light jets, €3,500–€7,000 for midsize jets and €6,500–€12,000 for super-midsize and heavy jets. **How much does a private jet from London to Paris cost?** As a 2026 guide, about €3,500 to €8,000 one way in a light jet, depending on the airports chosen, the date and where the aircraft is based. Charter-A quotes an exact, fully inclusive price for your date. **Is there a minimum spend or a membership fee?** No. Charter-A arranges flights on demand: there is no membership, no account to open and no fixed minimum spend. You pay for the flight you book. **What is an empty leg flight?** An empty leg is a flight an aircraft must make without passengers, to reach its next booking or return to base. Because it is flying anyway, it is offered at a reduced price — often 25 to 75 per cent below a standard charter. Empty legs are one-way, and their route and timing are fixed by the original booking. **Do I pay VAT on a private jet charter?** As a rule, no VAT is charged on a flight that leaves UK airspace. On a flight within the UK, VAT may apply. Every Charter-A quote states the VAT position for that flight. **Why does the price of the same flight change from week to week?** Because it depends on which aircraft are available on your dates and where they are. That is why a quote carries a validity date, normally seven days from issue. --- ## How do you charter a private jet for the first time? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/how-to-charter-a-private-jet/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** To charter a private jet you need three things: the route, the date and the number of passengers. Send them to a charter broker such as Charter-A, compare the aircraft and inclusive prices that come back, and approve the one you want. You sign a booking confirmation online, pay a deposit, send the passengers’ names, and arrive at the airport about 30 minutes before departure. No membership is required. **Key facts** - You need no membership, account or previous experience. - A quote needs only the route, the date and the passenger numbers; it is free and without obligation. - The booking confirmation is signed online, by DocuSign. - A 50 per cent deposit is paid on signing; the balance is due 15 days before the flight. - Your flight schedule, saying exactly where to arrive, comes at least 48 hours before departure. - You arrive about 30 minutes before take-off. ### What do I need before I ask for a quote? Very little. A flight can be priced from: - where you are flying from and to — a town or city is enough, and we suggest the most convenient airport; - the date, and a time if you have one — say so if you are flexible, because it can lower the price; - how many passengers; - whether it is one way, a return or a trip with several legs; - anything unusual: a dog, skis, golf clubs or a lot of luggage. ### What happens, step by step? 1. **Ask for a quote.** Use the form on this site or telephone, at any hour. 2. **Compare the options.** You receive suitable aircraft, each with photographs and one fully inclusive price. 3. **Approve the one you want.** Until you do, you are committed to nothing. 4. **Sign the booking confirmation.** It arrives by DocuSign and sets out your flights, aircraft and price exactly as quoted. 5. **Pay the deposit.** Fifty per cent on signing secures the aircraft, crew and slots; the balance is due 15 days before you fly. 6. **Send the passenger details.** Names as they appear on the passports, any catering requests, and the paperwork for a pet if one is travelling. 7. **Receive your flight schedule and fly.** At least 48 hours before departure you are told exactly where to arrive. Be there about 30 minutes before take-off. The same steps, with what Charter-A does at each one, are set out in [how it works](https://charter-private-jet.com/how-it-works/). ### How long does it take to book? A quote normally comes back the same day, and the paperwork takes minutes. Flights can be arranged at very short notice — see [how much notice you need](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/how-much-notice-to-charter-a-private-jet/) — but booking earlier gives a wider choice of aircraft. ### What should I check in a quote? - The aircraft type, how many seats it has and how much luggage it takes. - What the price includes, and the short list of things that can be extra — see [what is included in the price](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/what-is-included-in-private-jet-charter-price/). - Whether VAT applies. - How long the quote is valid. Prices move with availability, so a quote normally holds for seven days. - That the flight is operated on an Air Operator Certificate and is insured — see [is chartering a private jet safe?](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/is-private-jet-charter-safe/) - The cancellation terms, which are set out in the booking confirmation before you sign. ### Do I book with a broker or with an operator? Aircraft are owned and flown by operators, which are licensed air carriers. A broker such as Charter-A does not operate aircraft: it acts as your agent, finding the aircraft available from many operators, checking them and arranging the flight for you. The advantage is choice — one enquiry reaches aircraft from many operators rather than a single company’s fleet — and one team looks after the trip from the quote to the landing. ### What do I need on the day? A passport for an international flight, and any visa you would need on an airline. For flights within the UK we still ask for each passenger’s details and identification. Your flight schedule names the private terminal or handling agent to go to. There is no airline-style check-in: a member of the crew or the handling team meets you, your bags are loaded and you board. More in [how early to arrive, and what security to expect](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-arrival-security-passport/). ### More questions **Do I need to be a member to charter a private jet?** No. On-demand charter is paid for flight by flight. With Charter-A there is no membership, no account to open and no minimum spend. **Can I charter a private jet for a single flight?** Yes. A charter can be one way, a return or a trip of several legs, and you pay only for the flights you book. **How do I pay for a private jet charter?** A 50 per cent deposit is paid when you sign the booking confirmation and the balance is due 15 days before the flight; payment is always completed before you fly. Bank transfer and card are both accepted. **Can I change my flight after I have booked?** Usually, yes. Tell us in writing. Changes can generally be made, provided they do not conflict with the other bookings of the aircraft and its crew. **How many people can fly on a private jet?** From one passenger to 19 on a single aircraft. Very light jets seat four or five, light and midsize jets up to nine, heavy jets 11 to 14, and the largest VIP airliner in the Charter-A fleet guides up to 19. For bigger groups, see [group air charter on Charter-A.com](https://charter-a.com/air-taxis/group-air-charter/). --- ## How much notice do you need to charter a private jet? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/how-much-notice-to-charter-a-private-jet/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** Very little. Charter-A can arrange a private jet with as little as four hours’ notice, provided an aircraft and crew are available and, for an international flight, the border clearances can be made in time. Most flights are booked a few days to a few weeks ahead. For peak dates and the largest aircraft, book weeks or months in advance: the earlier you book, the wider the choice of aircraft. **Key facts** - Shortest notice: about four hours, subject to aircraft, crew and border clearances. - A standard UK or European trip: 48 to 72 hours is usually enough, if aircraft are available. - Peak dates and large-cabin aircraft: book weeks to months ahead. - 126 of the 468 airports on this site are open 24 hours; around London they are Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted. - 272 of those airports need prior permission to land, which Charter-A arranges. - Charter-A’s operations team answers the telephone 24 hours a day. ### How far ahead should I book? | When you book | What to expect | | --- | --- | | The same day | Possible from about four hours before departure when an aircraft and crew are in position. The choice of aircraft is narrow, and an international flight also needs border clearance. | | Two or three days ahead | Usually enough for a standard UK or European trip, if aircraft are available. | | One to several weeks ahead | The widest choice of aircraft, and time to arrange catering, cars and a pet’s paperwork. | | Peak dates and large-cabin aircraft | Book weeks to months ahead. | ### How quickly can a private jet be ready? The limits are practical ones. An aircraft and crew have to be available, and if they are not already at your airport they must fly in to collect you. Aircraft are based across the UK and Europe, so the nearest suitable one is often a short positioning flight away. With an aircraft in place, the remaining steps — the booking confirmation, the passenger list and the flight plan — take a few hours at most. ### What can slow down a last-minute flight? - **Aircraft and crew.** On a busy day the nearest suitable aircraft may be some distance away, or already booked, and crews work within legal limits on their duty hours. - **Airport opening hours.** Many business airports close at night: 126 of the 468 airports on this site are open 24 hours. Around London, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted are open around the clock, while [Biggin Hill](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-biggin-hill/) and [Farnborough](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-farnborough/) keep set hours. - **Permission and slots.** 272 of the 468 airports require prior permission to land, and the busiest airports allocate slots. Charter-A arranges both, but they take a little time. - **Borders.** Before an international flight, the passengers’ details are sent to the border authorities so that you can be cleared. At some smaller airports customs attends by arrangement and needs notice. - **Pets.** A pet travelling abroad for the first time needs the longest lead of all: its rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days old. See [taking a dog on a private jet](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/dog-on-a-private-jet/). ### When should I book well ahead? For the busiest dates of the year: summer weekends to the Mediterranean — Nice, Ibiza and Palma above all — the ski season in the Alps, and major sporting and business events. On those dates aircraft sell out and prices rise, so book weeks or months ahead. The same applies if you need a large-cabin or long-range aircraft. ### Does a late booking cost more? It can. A late request narrows the choice of aircraft, and the one that remains may be larger than you need or further away, either of which raises the price. Occasionally the opposite happens: an aircraft already due to fly your route without passengers can be offered at a reduced price as an empty leg — see [how much it costs to charter a private jet](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-charter-cost/). ### What do you need from me for an urgent flight? The route, the departure time, the number of passengers and a telephone number. Call rather than email — +44 (0)20 7781 8094 is answered 24 hours a day — and have each passenger’s passport to hand, because the passenger list has to be sent before an international flight. ### More questions **Can I book a private jet for today?** Often, yes. Same-day flights are possible when an aircraft and crew are available — Charter-A can arrange a flight with as little as four hours’ notice — but the choice of aircraft is narrower than when you book ahead. **What is the shortest notice for a private jet?** About four hours with Charter-A, subject to an aircraft and crew being available and, for an international flight, to border clearances. **How far ahead should I book a private jet for the summer or the ski season?** Weeks to months ahead. Summer weekends to the Mediterranean and the ski season in the Alps are the busiest periods of the year, when aircraft sell out and prices rise. **Can a private jet fly at night?** Yes, where the airports at both ends are open. 126 of the 468 airports on this site are open 24 hours; many business airports close overnight, so a late departure can mean using a different airport. **Is anyone available outside office hours?** Yes. Charter-A’s operations team answers the telephone 24 hours a day, every day of the year. --- ## What is included in the price of a private jet charter? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/what-is-included-in-private-jet-charter-price/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** A Charter-A private jet quote is one inclusive figure. It covers the aircraft and its crew, fuel, landing and handling fees, standard catering on board and 24-hour operations support. The few things that can cost extra are named in your booking confirmation: de-icing if winter conditions require it, special catering requests, cars and other ground arrangements, and a change of destination. **Key facts** - Included: the aircraft, the crew, fuel, landing fees and the handling agents’ services. - Included: standard catering suited to the aircraft, the route and the time of day. - Possible extras: de-icing, special catering, cars and hospitality, a change of destination. - Payment: a 50 per cent deposit on signing, the balance 15 days before the flight. - As a rule, no VAT is charged on flights that leave UK airspace. ### What exactly does the price cover? | Included in the price | Can be extra | | --- | --- | | The aircraft and its crew | De-icing, if winter conditions require it | | Fuel | Catering beyond the standard: particular menus, wines or champagne | | Landing fees, and overnight parking fees if the aircraft waits for you | Chauffeur-driven cars and other ground or hospitality arrangements | | The crew’s overnight costs | A change of destination after you have booked | | The handling agents’ services at each airport | Fees that some airports charge for pets | | Standard catering: light snacks and a bar on board | | | 24-hour operations support | | As set out in Charter-A’s proposals and booking confirmation. The price you approve is the price you pay; the items on the right are charged only if they arise or you ask for them. ### Why is de-icing not included? Because nobody can know in advance whether it will be needed. If there is frost, ice or snow on an aircraft before a winter departure, it has to be removed before the aircraft can fly, and the airport charges for doing so. It is charged only if it happens. ### What catering is included? Light snacks and a bar on board, suited to the aircraft, the route and the time of day. Anything more — a hot meal, a particular champagne, a birthday cake, children’s meals, food for a special diet — can be ordered in advance at cost. What can be served depends on the aircraft: larger jets have galleys for full meals, while smaller jets are better suited to cold dishes. ### Are there hidden fees? There should not be, and with Charter-A there are not: the possible extras are named in writing before you sign. When you compare quotes from different companies, check that each one includes the same things. The costs most often left out of a headline price are positioning the aircraft, landing and handling fees, the crew’s overnight costs, fuel surcharges and de-icing. ### Is VAT included? As a rule, no VAT is charged on a flight that leaves UK airspace. On a flight within the UK, VAT may apply. Every Charter-A quote states the VAT position for that flight, so the figure you see is the figure you pay. ### How and when do I pay? A 50 per cent deposit is paid when you sign the booking confirmation, and the balance is due 15 days before the flight; payment is always completed before you fly. Bank transfer and card are both accepted. The cancellation terms are set out in the booking confirmation, so you see them before you commit. ### Can a car be included? Chauffeur-driven cars can be arranged with your flight, at cost, and are timed to your aircraft: if the flight moves, the car moves with it. ### More questions **Is fuel included in the price of a private jet charter?** Yes. A Charter-A quote includes the fuel for the flights quoted, along with the aircraft and its crew. **Are landing fees included in a private jet charter?** Yes. Landing fees, the handling agents’ services and any overnight parking fees are included in a Charter-A quote. **Is food included on a private jet?** Standard catering is included: light snacks and a bar on board, suited to the aircraft, the route and the time of day. Special requests are ordered in advance and charged at cost. **What happens to the price if my plans change?** Tell us in writing. A change of timing can usually be accommodated; a change of destination is priced again, because the flying time and the airport fees change. **Can the price change after I have booked?** No. The price you approve is the price you pay. The only additions are the named extras, such as de-icing, if they arise, and anything you ask to add. --- ## Which size of private jet do I need? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/which-size-private-jet/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** Compared by size, the rule is simple: choose the smallest aircraft that carries your party and its luggage the distance without stopping. For up to four people on a flight of around two hours, a very light jet or a turboprop is enough. Light jets seat five to nine and reach most of Europe from the UK. Midsize and super-midsize jets add stand-up cabins and range; heavy and ultra-long-range jets carry 11 to 19 and fly between continents. **Key facts** - Count the passengers first, then the luggage, then the distance. - Very light jets seat 4–5; light and midsize jets up to 9; heavy jets 11–14; the largest up to 19. - Stand-up cabins begin with the midsize class, at about 5 ft 8 in; super-midsize and heavy jets are around six feet or more. - From London, anything within about 900 nautical miles — Paris, Geneva, Nice, Ibiza — is non-stop for every class. - This site describes 31 aircraft types in seven classes. ### What are the classes of private jet? | Class | Passengers | Typical flight | Range | Cabin height | Examples | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [Very Light Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/very-light-jets/) | 4–5 | Up to about 2 hours | 1,150–1,550 nm | 4’6” to 4’11” | Citation Mustang, Citation M2, Phenom 100 | | [Light Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/light-jets/) | 5–9 | Up to about 3 hours | 1,300–2,010 nm | 4’9” to 4’11” | Citation CJ1, Citation CJ2, Citation CJ3 | | [Midsize Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/midsize-jets/) | 6–9 | Up to about 4–5 hours | 1,900–2,930 nm | 5’7” to 5’9” | Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP, Learjet 60XR | | [Super Midsize Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/super-midsize-jets/) | Up to 9 | Up to about 6–7 hours | 2,700–4,018 nm | 5’8” to 6’0” | Citation Sovereign+, Citation Latitude, Praetor 600 | | [Heavy Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/heavy-jets/) | 11–14 | Up to about 8–9 hours | 3,800–4,750 nm | 6’0” to 6’2” | Challenger 604, Legacy 650, Falcon 900 | | [Ultra Long Range Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/ultra-long-range-jets/) | 9–19 | 11 hours and more | 4,600–6,150 nm | 6’2” to 6’7” | Global 5000, Global 6000, Global Express XRS | | [Turboprops](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/turboprops/) | 6–8 | Up to about 2–3 hours | 1,470–1,800 nm | 4’9” to 5’9” | Pilatus PC-12, King Air 200, Piaggio Avanti II | Figures for the aircraft types in the Charter-A fleet guides. Range is the maximum for the type; non-stop range on the day depends on passengers, baggage and winds. ### How do I choose? 1. **Passengers.** Everyone needs a seat, and a full aircraft is a snug one. On a longer flight, choose a class with a seat or two to spare. 2. **Luggage.** The holds of very light jets suit soft bags and a few cases; a party with ski equipment or golf clubs often needs the next class up. See [how much luggage you can take](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-luggage-allowance/). 3. **Distance.** A longer flight needs more range. A smaller jet can still fly it with a fuel stop, which costs time but can save money. 4. **The runway.** Some airports have short runways. Turboprops and the smaller jets can use them where larger aircraft cannot. 5. **Comfort.** Stand-up headroom, an enclosed lavatory and room to move about begin with the midsize class; heavy jets add separate areas to work, dine and rest. 6. **Budget.** Larger aircraft cost more per hour — see [how much it costs to charter a private jet](https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-charter-cost/). ### Which aircraft can fly my route non-stop? Distance decides. These examples are from London: | From London to | Distance | Light jet | Midsize or heavy jet | Flown non-stop by | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [Paris Le Bourget](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-paris-le-bourget/) | 180 nm | 45 min | 40 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Edinburgh](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-edinburgh/) | 290 nm | 1 hr 05 min | 55 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Geneva](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-geneva/) | 400 nm | 1 hr 25 min | 1 hr 10 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Nice](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-nice/) | 555 nm | 1 hr 50 min | 1 hr 35 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Ibiza](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-ibiza/) | 760 nm | 2 hr 25 min | 2 hr 05 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Rome Ciampino](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-rome-ciampino/) | 780 nm | 2 hr 30 min | 2 hr 05 min | Every class, including very light jets and turboprops | | [Málaga](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-malaga/) | 910 nm | 2 hr 50 min | 2 hr 25 min | Light jets and larger; very light jets may need a fuel stop | | [Mykonos](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-mykonos/) | 1,370 nm | With a fuel stop | 3 hr 30 min | Midsize and super-midsize jets; smaller jets may add a fuel stop | | [Tenerife South](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-tenerife-south/) | 1,590 nm | With a fuel stop | 4 hr | Midsize and super-midsize jets; smaller jets may add a fuel stop | | [Larnaca](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-larnaca/) | 1,760 nm | With a fuel stop | 4 hr 25 min | Super-midsize and heavy jets; smaller jets add a fuel stop | Approximate airborne times in still air, worked out from the great-circle distance from central London. Routing, winds and the aircraft chosen change them on the day. ### Does a bigger jet fly faster? A little. Light jets cruise at around 380 to 450 knots and midsize jets at 440 to 460; the long-range flagships reach about 488 knots. On a two-hour flight the difference is a matter of minutes. Turboprops are slower, at around 270 to 290 knots, but on a short flight they arrive only a little after a jet would. ### Jet or turboprop? On a flight of an hour or two, a [turboprop](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/turboprops/) such as the Pilatus PC-12 or the King Air 200 is often the best value: a pressurised cabin for six to eight passengers, at a lower cost than a jet. Turboprops can also use short runways and smaller airfields that jets cannot. For longer flights, or when time matters most, a jet is the better choice. ### What if I am not sure? Tell us the trip and who is travelling. Charter-A recommends the aircraft that fits, and where two classes would both do the job we send both as options, so that you can compare the price and the space. ### More questions **What is the smallest private jet I can charter?** A very light jet such as the Cessna Citation Mustang or Embraer Phenom 100, with four passenger seats. Very light jets suit flights of up to about two hours. **How many passengers can a private jet carry?** From four in a very light jet to 19 in a VIP airliner. Light jets carry five to nine passengers, midsize jets six to nine and heavy jets 11 to 14. **Which private jets can fly from London to New York?** Ultra-long-range jets such as the Global 6000 and Falcon 7X, with ranges of about 6,000 nautical miles, fly it non-stop with fuel to spare. Heavy jets also link the UK with North America, though some types add a short fuel stop on the longest Atlantic flights, and the super-midsize Praetor 600 can cross the Atlantic too. **Can a small jet reach the Alps or the Mediterranean from London?** Yes. Geneva, Nice and Ibiza are all within non-stop reach of every class, including very light jets. Range on the day depends on the passengers, the baggage and the winds. **Is a turboprop slower than a jet?** Yes: turboprops cruise at around 270 to 290 knots, against 380 to 450 for light jets. On a flight of an hour or so the difference in arrival time is small, and the turboprop costs less. --- ## Which airports can a private jet use? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/which-airports-can-private-jets-use/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** A private jet can use almost any airport with a runway long enough for the aircraft, opening hours that suit the flight and, for an international trip, customs and immigration. That includes many smaller airports the airlines do not serve: this site describes 468 in 38 countries. The best choice is usually the airport closest to where you are actually going, provided its hours and runway suit your flight. **Key facts** - 468 airports in 38 countries are described on this site, each with an airport guide to download. - 126 of them are open 24 hours. - 238 have customs and immigration on site; at others they are arranged in advance. - 272 require prior permission to land (PPR), which Charter-A arranges. - London has twelve airports that accept private jets. ### How do I choose the right airport? 1. **Start with where you are going.** The saving in a private flight is usually on the ground, so the airport nearest your door or your meeting generally wins. 2. **Check the opening hours.** Many business airports close overnight; 126 of the 468 on this site are open 24 hours. 3. **Check customs.** For an international flight the airport must be able to provide customs and immigration. 238 of the 468 have them on site; elsewhere officers attend by arrangement. 4. **Match the runway to the aircraft.** A short runway limits the size of aircraft that can use it, and a few airports have special rules. 5. **Allow for permission.** Many airports want prior permission for each flight, and the busiest allocate slots. Charter-A obtains both. In practice you only need to tell us where you are starting from and where you want to end up. We suggest the airports that fit. ### Which London airport is best for a private jet? It depends on which part of London you want and when you are flying. [London City](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-london-city/) is the closest to the City and Canary Wharf, but its short runway and steep approach limit it to approved aircraft types. [Biggin Hill](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-biggin-hill/) and [Northolt](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-northolt/) are both about 15 miles from central London. [Farnborough](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-farnborough/), to the south-west, is the UK’s largest dedicated business aviation airport, with a 2,440-metre runway. For a flight in the middle of the night, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted are open 24 hours. | Airport | From central London | Runway | Open | Customs | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [London City](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-london-city/) | 8 miles | 1,508 m | 04:45–22:00 | On site | | [Northolt](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-northolt/) | 13 miles | ≈ 1,683 m | 08:00–20:00 | On request | | [Biggin Hill](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-biggin-hill/) | 14 miles | 1,806 m | 06:30–23:00 | On site | | [Heathrow](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-heathrow/) | 15 miles | 3,901 m | 24 hours | Yes, 24 hours | | [Gatwick](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-gatwick/) | 25 miles | 3,317 m | 24 hours | Yes, 24 hours | | [Luton](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-luton/) | 27 miles | 2,162 m | 24 hours | Yes, 24 hours | | [Stansted](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-stansted/) | 30 miles | 3,049 m | 24 hours | Yes, 24 hours | | [Farnborough](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-farnborough/) | 32 miles | 2,440 m | 07:00–22:00 | On site | | [Southend](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-southend/) | 36 miles | 1,856 m | 06:00–02:30 | Yes, 24 hours | | [Cranfield](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-cranfield/) | 44 miles | 1,799 m | 06:30–19:00 | On request | | [Oxford](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-oxford/) | 56 miles | 1,526 m | 06:30–22:30 | On request | | [Lydd](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-lydd/) | 60 miles | 1,505 m | 08:30–19:00 | Yes | Distances are in a straight line from central London. Opening hours are shown in short form; each airport’s page gives them in full. All twelve are compared in more detail on the [private jet London](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-london/) page. ### Can a private jet use Heathrow or Gatwick? Yes. [Heathrow](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-heathrow/) and [Gatwick](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-gatwick/) both accept private jets, are open 24 hours and have customs and immigration on site. Most private flights nevertheless use London’s business airports, which are quieter and simpler to use. ### Do all airports have customs? No. 238 of the 468 airports on this site have customs and immigration on site. At others, officers attend by arrangement, which needs notice, and a few can handle only flights within the Schengen area. For an international flight we check this before suggesting an airport. ### What is an FBO? FBO stands for fixed base operator: the private terminal, run by a handling company, that looks after private flights at an airport. It is where you arrive and where the crew meets you. Identity and border checks are usually carried out there too, although at some airports they take place in the main terminal. Smaller airfields may have a simple general aviation terminal instead. ### Does the choice of airport change the price? Yes. Landing, handling and parking fees differ from one airport to the next, and the busiest hubs charge the most. A smaller business airport nearby can lower the price and save time on the ground. ### Where can I see the details of each airport? Each of the 468 airports has its own page on this site, with the runway, opening hours, customs and handling as published by the airport, and a one-page guide to download. Start with [all destinations](https://charter-private-jet.com/destinations/), or see the airports compared for [London](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-london/), [Paris](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-paris/), [Milan](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-milan/) and the [French Riviera](https://charter-private-jet.com/private-jet-french-riviera/). ### More questions **Can a private jet land at any airport?** No. It needs an airport with a runway long enough for the aircraft, open at the time of the flight and, for an international flight, able to provide customs and immigration. Within those limits the choice is wide. **Which private jet airport is closest to central London?** London City, about 8 miles from the centre, followed by Northolt (13 miles), Biggin Hill (14 miles) and Heathrow (15 miles). London City is limited to aircraft approved for its steep approach. **Which London airports are open 24 hours for private jets?** Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted. The other London airports keep set opening hours, which are given on each airport’s page. **What does PPR mean?** Prior permission required: the airport must approve each flight before it arrives. 272 of the 468 airports on this site require it. Charter-A obtains the permission as part of arranging the flight. **Can I choose which airport I fly from?** Yes. Tell us where you are starting from and where you are going, and we suggest the most convenient airports. If you prefer a particular one, we quote from there. --- ## How early do you arrive for a private jet, and is there security? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-arrival-security-passport/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** How early? Arrive about 30 minutes before departure. There is no airline-style check-in and no queue: you go to the private terminal named on your flight schedule, your identity is checked, your bags are loaded and you board. Security and border rules still apply — you need a passport for an international flight, and any visa an airline passenger would need — but the checks are usually done privately and take minutes. **Key facts** - Arrive about 30 minutes before departure; allow longer for more than ten passengers or a lot of luggage. - Your flight schedule, sent at least 48 hours ahead, names the terminal and gives directions. - A passport is required for an international flight; visa rules are the same as on an airline. - The passengers’ details are sent to the border authorities before the flight. - Customs and immigration are handled privately where the airport provides for it. ### Where do I go? To the private terminal or handling agent named on your flight schedule, not to the airline terminal. The schedule arrives at least 48 hours before departure and gives the name, the address and directions, so that you or your driver know exactly where to go. The private terminal is often called an FBO, and it usually has parking at the door. ### What happens when I arrive? A member of your crew or of the handling team meets you. Your identity is checked against the passenger list, your luggage is taken to the aircraft and you are shown out to it — usually a short walk. From the door of the terminal to your seat is a matter of minutes. ### Do private jet passengers go through security? Yes. Private aviation is regulated like the rest of aviation, and passengers and their bags are identified and, where the rules for that airport and aircraft require it, screened. The difference is in how it is done: in the private terminal, for your party alone, without the queues of an airline terminal. ### Do I need a passport on a private jet? On an international flight, yes. The border rules are exactly the same as on an airline: the same passport and the same visas. Before the flight we ask for a copy of each passenger’s passport. The details go on the passenger list sent to the border authorities and to the handling agents at both ends, which often allows passengers to be cleared in advance. You must still carry the passport itself. For flights within the UK we still supply the passengers’ details, so identification is asked for. ### Where are customs and immigration done? At most business airports, in the private terminal, by officers who are based on site or who attend for your flight. Arrangements differ from airport to airport: at some, the border check is carried out in the main terminal, and at others customs attends only by prior arrangement. Each airport page on this site says what applies, and your flight schedule confirms it. ### Can I arrive later than 30 minutes before? Sometimes, but it is unwise. Flights through busy airspace are given a take-off slot, and a missed slot can mean a long wait for the next one. Being on board and ready on time is the best protection against a delay. Larger groups, and parties with a lot of luggage, should allow a little longer. ### And when I land? The same in reverse. Handling staff meet the aircraft, any border formalities are completed and your bags are brought to you. If a chauffeur has been arranged with your flight, the car is timed to the aircraft, so it is there when you are. ### More questions **How long before a private jet flight should I arrive?** About 20 minutes before departure. Allow a little longer if there are more than ten passengers or a lot of luggage to load. **Is luggage checked on a private jet?** Luggage is identified and, where the airport’s rules require it, screened. It is then loaded directly onto the aircraft. The rules on dangerous goods apply as they do on an airline. **Do children need a passport on a private jet?** Yes. On an international flight every passenger needs their own valid passport, whatever their age, exactly as on an airline. **Do I need a visa to fly by private jet?** If you would need one on an airline, you need one on a private jet. Immigration rules depend on your nationality and your destination, not on the aircraft. Charter-A can guide you, but each passenger is responsible for holding the right documents. **What is a CTOT, or take-off slot?** A calculated take-off time: a slot issued by air traffic flow management when the airspace or an airport is busy. It applies to private jets as it does to airlines, and allows take-off from five minutes before to ten minutes after the time given. --- ## Is chartering a private jet safe? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/is-private-jet-charter-safe/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** Yes, chartering a private jet is safe, provided the flight is operated by a licensed air carrier. A charter flight must be flown under an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by a national aviation authority — the same kind of licence an airline holds — which governs how the aircraft is maintained, how the crew is trained and how each flight is run. Every flight Charter-A arranges is on a CAA or EASA approved AOC, with two type-rated pilots on every jet and full insurance. **Key facts** - A charter flight must be operated under an Air Operator Certificate (AOC). - In the UK, AOCs are issued and overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority; in the EU, by national authorities under EASA rules. - Every jet Charter-A arranges is flown by two type-rated pilots and is fully insured. - Charter-A is an accredited member of The Air Charter Association. - An aircraft offered for hire without an AOC is an illegal charter, however low the price. ### What is an Air Operator Certificate? An AOC is the approval an aircraft operator must hold to carry paying passengers. To gain one and keep it, the operator has to satisfy its aviation authority about the airworthiness and maintenance of its aircraft, the licences and recurrent training of its pilots, its operating procedures and its safety management, and it is audited regularly. Airlines hold the same kind of certificate. ### Who regulates private jet charter? In the United Kingdom, the [Civil Aviation Authority](https://www.caa.co.uk/) issues and monitors AOCs. In the European Union, each country’s aviation authority does so under the common rules of the [European Union Aviation Safety Agency](https://www.easa.europa.eu/) (EASA). Both work to the international standards of ICAO, the United Nations’ aviation body, which is why a charter flight can cross borders under one recognised set of rules. ### What does a charter broker check? Charter-A does not operate aircraft. It acts as agent for the passenger, and its job is to find, check and arrange the right licensed aircraft for each flight. Before an aircraft is offered we confirm that it is on a CAA or EASA approved AOC, that it is insured for charter, and that it suits the runways and the distance involved. ### How many pilots fly a private jet? Two, on every jet Charter-A arranges. Both are type-rated, which means each holds the specific qualification for that aircraft type, gained by training and testing on it and kept current by regular checks. ### What is an illegal charter? An illegal, or “grey”, charter is a flight sold on an aircraft that is not on an AOC — typically a privately owned aircraft hired out for payment. It can be cheaper precisely because it avoids the training, maintenance and oversight that an AOC requires, and its insurance may not cover fare-paying passengers. If a price looks too good, ask which AOC the flight is operated under. ### Six questions to ask before you book 1. Is the flight operated on an Air Operator Certificate, and which authority issued it? 2. How many pilots will fly it, and are they type-rated on the aircraft? 3. Is the aircraft insured for commercial charter? 4. Is the broker an accredited member of The Air Charter Association? 5. What exactly does the price include? 6. Whom can I telephone, at any hour, on the day of the flight? Charter-A’s answers: every flight is on a CAA or EASA approved AOC; there are two type-rated pilots on every jet; every aircraft is fully insured; Charter-A is an accredited member of The Air Charter Association; the price is one inclusive figure; and the operations team answers 24 hours a day on +44 (0)20 7781 8094. ### How established is Charter-A? Charter-A Ltd has arranged private flights since 2011 from its base at London Redhill Aerodrome, and is rated 5.0 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 226 reviews (checked 4 October 2026). More on [about Charter-A](https://charter-private-jet.com/about/). ### More questions **Do private jets follow the same safety rules as airlines?** Charter flights are operated under the same kind of licence as airlines, an Air Operator Certificate, and are overseen by the same aviation authorities. The safeguards are the same in kind: approved maintenance, licensed and regularly tested crews, and regulatory audits. **Do private jets have two pilots?** Every jet Charter-A arranges is flown by two pilots, each type-rated on the aircraft. **What does type-rated mean?** A type rating is the additional qualification a pilot must hold to fly a specific aircraft type. It is gained by training and testing on that type and kept current by regular checks. **What is the difference between a charter broker and an operator?** An operator holds the Air Operator Certificate and flies the aircraft. A broker acts as the passenger’s agent, choosing a suitable aircraft from the operators available and arranging the flight. Charter-A is a broker, and an accredited member of The Air Charter Association. **How do I know a charter broker is reputable?** Look for accreditation by The Air Charter Association, the industry’s trade body; a company record you can check — Charter-A Ltd is company number 7668809, incorporated in June 2011; independent reviews; and a team you can telephone at any hour. --- ## Can I take my dog on a private jet? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/dog-on-a-private-jet/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** Yes. On a private jet your dog travels in the cabin beside you, not in the hold. It needs the same documents as on any journey across a border: a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and the right health certificate or pet passport for the destination. Charter-A confirms the rules for your route, checks the paperwork and routes the flight through an airport approved for pets. **Key facts** - Dogs travel in the cabin with you, never in the hold. - The microchip comes first, then a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel. - UK to the EU: an Animal Health Certificate issued within 10 days of departure, which also covers the return for four months. - Returning to Great Britain: a vet’s tapeworm treatment one to five days before landing, and arrival at an approved airport. - Carriage is confirmed with the aircraft operator when you book, and some airports charge a pet fee. ### Where does my dog sit? In the cabin with you, with water and its own bedding to hand. A dog must be restrained for take-off and landing, as passengers are. No pet travels in the hold on a flight arranged by Charter-A. > “The absolute best private charter experience.” — Beverley R · flew her Bernese Mountain Dog puppy home with Charter-A · Trustpilot ### What paperwork does a dog need to fly from the UK to Europe? 1. **A microchip.** A standard ISO-compatible chip, fitted before the rabies vaccination. 2. **A rabies vaccination.** Given after the microchip and at least 21 days before travel. If your dog’s boosters are up to date, this is usually already covered. 3. **An Animal Health Certificate.** Issued by an official vet within 10 days of departure. It then covers onward travel within the EU and the journey home for four months. 4. **Arrival at the right airport.** Pets enter the EU through designated points of entry where the documents are checked. We route the flight accordingly. ### What is needed to bring a dog back to Great Britain? - One of three documents: an EU pet passport issued in the EU, the Animal Health Certificate used for the outward journey (valid for the return for four months), or a Great Britain pet health certificate. - A tapeworm treatment given by a vet between one and five days (24 to 120 hours) before landing, and recorded by the vet in the dog’s documents. - Arrival at an airport approved for pets. Charter-A routes the flight to one and arranges the check before you land. ### What about the United States? A dog entering the United States must be at least six months old and microchipped, and a CDC Dog Import Form has to be completed online before departure; the receipt travels with you. Charter-A tells you which health and vaccination records to carry for your routing, and plans the requirements for the return to the UK before you leave. ### How does my dog get to and from the airfield? A calm car at each end makes the day easier. Our chauffeur partner, Executive Global Travel, runs a [pet-friendly chauffeur service](https://exec-chauffeur.com/pet-friendly-chauffeur/): you and your dog travel together in a Mercedes V-Class or S-Class, and they often drive clients [to and from private jets](https://exec-chauffeur.com/pet-friendly-chauffeur/private-jet-transfers/). A long journey with you and your pets together can be arranged too. ### How much notice does a flight with a dog need? The flight can be arranged as quickly as any other; the paperwork sets the pace. A dog that has never been vaccinated against rabies has to wait 21 days after the vaccination. If the vaccinations are up to date, what remains is the vet’s certificate, issued within ten days of departure, and — for the return to Great Britain — the tapeworm treatment one to five days before landing. ### Does it cost more to fly with a dog? The charter price is for the aircraft, so a dog does not need a ticket. Some airports charge a fee for handling pets, which is added if it applies, and carriage is agreed with the aircraft operator when you book. ### Can cats and other pets fly too? Yes. Cats travel in the cabin in the same way, and the travel rules for cats are broadly the same as for dogs, without the tapeworm treatment. Tell us what is travelling when you enquire. Entry requirements are set by the authorities and can change at short notice; the outline above is not the final word. Charter-A confirms the rules in force for your trip as part of every booking. The official guidance is on GOV.UK: [taking your pet abroad](https://www.gov.uk/taking-your-pet-abroad) and [bringing your pet to Great Britain](https://www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain). ### More questions **Do dogs travel in the hold on a private jet?** No. On a private jet arranged by Charter-A, dogs and other pets travel in the cabin with their owners. **Can a large dog fly on a private jet?** Yes. Tell us the breed and size when you enquire, so that the aircraft, and its operator’s approval, can be matched to your dog. **Does my dog need a passport to fly on a private jet?** It needs the same documents as on any other journey across a border. From Great Britain to the EU that is an Animal Health Certificate; to return, an EU pet passport issued in the EU, the Animal Health Certificate or a Great Britain pet health certificate. **How long before travel must a dog be vaccinated against rabies?** At least 21 days before travel, and after the microchip has been fitted. A puppy cannot be vaccinated against rabies until it is 12 weeks old. **Which UK airports can pets arrive at by private jet?** Pets arriving in Great Britain must land at an airport approved for pet arrivals. Charter-A routes the flight to an approved airport and arranges the check before you land. --- ## How much luggage can you take on a private jet? Page: https://charter-private-jet.com/articles/private-jet-luggage-allowance/ Last reviewed: 4 October 2026 **Short answer:** As a general guide, one suitcase and one soft bag for each passenger. The real limit depends on the aircraft: the hold of a very light jet takes four or five cases, a midsize jet takes a full party’s luggage, and heavy jets have holds of well over 100 cubic feet. The charter price covers the aircraft, so there are no charges per bag. Tell us what you are bringing when you enquire, and we match the aircraft to it. **Key facts** - General guide: one suitcase and one soft bag per passenger. - The limit is set by the aircraft: the size of its hold and the weight it can carry. - Very light jets take four or five cases; heavy jets have holds of 115 to 240 cubic feet. - Soft bags pack better than hard cases, especially in smaller jets. - Skis, golf clubs and other long items: give us the dimensions when you enquire. ### How much baggage space does each class of aircraft have? | Class | Passengers | Baggage space, by aircraft | | --- | --- | --- | | [Very Light Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/very-light-jets/) | 4–5 | Citation Mustang: 4 cases · Citation M2: 46 cu ft (1.3 m³) · Phenom 100: 5 cases · HondaJet: 57–66 cu ft (1.6–1.9 m³) | | [Light Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/light-jets/) | 5–9 | Citation CJ1: 5 cases · Citation CJ2: 65 cu ft (1.8 m³) · Citation CJ3: 5 large suitcases · Citation Bravo: 73 cu ft (2.1 m³) · Phenom 300E: 74–84 cu ft (2.1–2.4 m³) · PC-24: 90 cu ft (2.5 m³) | | [Midsize Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/midsize-jets/) | 6–9 | Citation XLS+: 90 cu ft (2.5 m³) · Hawker 900XP: 50 cu ft (1.4 m³) · Learjet 60XR: 55 cu ft (1.6 m³) · Citation VII: 51 cu ft (1.4 m³) | | [Super Midsize Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/super-midsize-jets/) | Up to 9 | Citation Sovereign+: 100 cu ft (2.8 m³) · Citation Latitude: 127 cu ft (3.6 m³) · Praetor 600: 155 cu ft (4.4 m³) | | [Heavy Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/heavy-jets/) | 11–14 | Challenger 604: 115 cu ft (3.3 m³) · Legacy 650: 240 cu ft (6.8 m³) · Falcon 900: 127 cu ft (3.6 m³) · Gulfstream G350: 25 standard suitcases · Gulfstream GIV-SP: 169 cu ft (4.8 m³) | | [Ultra Long Range Jets](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/ultra-long-range-jets/) | 9–19 | Global 6000: 195 cu ft (5.5 m³) | | [Turboprops](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/turboprops/) | 6–8 | Pilatus PC-12: 40 cu ft (1.1 m³) · King Air 200: 53–55 cu ft (1.5–1.6 m³) · Piaggio Avanti II: 44 cu ft (1.2 m³) | Baggage figures from the Charter-A fleet guides, for the aircraft types on this site. Individual aircraft vary, and the usable space on a given flight also depends on weight. ### Why does it depend on the aircraft? Three things set the limit: the volume of the hold, the size of its door, and weight. Every aircraft has a maximum take-off weight that has to cover the passengers, their bags and the fuel, so a full cabin on a long flight leaves less allowance for luggage than a half-empty one on a short hop. That is why the same aircraft can take more luggage on one trip than on another. ### Are soft bags really better? Yes. Baggage holds are irregular in shape, and soft bags fit into spaces that rigid cases cannot use. In the smaller jets, where every inch counts, a party travelling with soft bags can take noticeably more. ### Can I bring skis, golf clubs or a pushchair? Usually, yes. Most private jets carry golf clubs, skis and similar equipment, and pushchairs and child seats are routine. Length is the usual constraint, so tell us the dimensions and weight when you enquire: we confirm that the items fit, or suggest an aircraft that takes them. Some types are built for it — the [Pilatus PC-24](https://charter-private-jet.com/fleet/pilatus-pc-24/) has a flat floor and a large cargo door. ### Can I reach my bags during the flight? It depends on the aircraft. On some types the baggage compartment can be reached from the cabin; on others it is a separate hold that stays closed until you land. Keep whatever you need in the air, and anything valuable, in a small bag in the cabin. ### Is anything not allowed? Yes. The rules on dangerous goods apply on a private flight exactly as they do on an airline, so the same items are restricted. If you need to carry something unusual, ask before you travel. ### What if I have more luggage than I expected? Tell us as soon as you know. We can confirm whether it fits, or move you to a larger aircraft if one is available — which is far easier a week ahead than on the day. ### More questions **Is there a weight limit for luggage on a private jet?** There is no fixed allowance per passenger as there is on an airline. The limit is the aircraft’s: the size of its hold and the total weight it can carry with your passengers and fuel on board. **How many suitcases fit in a light jet?** Charter-A’s fleet guides give five cases for the Citation CJ1 and five large suitcases for the Citation CJ3. Larger light jets such as the Phenom 300E and the Pilatus PC-24 have holds of 74 to 90 cubic feet. **Can I take golf clubs on a private jet?** Usually, yes. Most private jets carry golf clubs; tell us how many sets when you enquire, so that we can confirm they fit the hold of the aircraft offered. **Do I pay for extra bags on a private jet?** No. The charter price is for the aircraft, not per bag. Extra luggage matters only if it calls for a larger aircraft. **How much luggage can each passenger bring?** As a general guide, one suitcase and one soft bag each. Tell us in advance if you plan to bring more, so that we can check it against the baggage compartment of your aircraft.
