How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

No obligation. A Charter-A specialist replies with aircraft options and one fully inclusive price. Prefer to talk? Call +44 (0)20 7781 8094, 24 hours a day.

The short answer

Chartering a private jet typically costs from around £2,000 to £3,000 per flying hour for a small jet, rising to £6,000 to £8,000 per hour and more for a large or long-range jet. You pay for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The final price depends on the aircraft, the flying time, where the aircraft has to come from and the airports used, so every trip is quoted individually.

Key facts

  • Small jets: from around £2,000–£3,000 per flying hour, as a guide.
  • Large and long-range jets: £6,000–£8,000 per flying hour and upwards.
  • The price is for the whole aircraft, not per seat.
  • A Charter-A quote is one inclusive figure: aircraft, crew, fuel, and standard landing and handling fees.
  • Empty legs are often 25 to 75 per cent cheaper, on one-way flights whose route and timing are fixed.
  • No membership, account or minimum spend is needed.

What does a private jet cost per hour?

Charter prices are built on the flying hour, and the hourly rate rises with the size of the aircraft. As a guide, the market ranges for 2026 are:

AircraftGuide rate per flying hour
Light jets (4–6 passengers)€1,800–€4,000
Midsize jets (6–8 passengers)€3,500–€7,000
Super-midsize and heavy jets (8–14 passengers)€6,500–€12,000
Ultra-long-range jets and VIP airliners€12,000–€25,000 and more

Approximate market ranges for 2026, in euros, as published in Charter-A’s guide to charter costs. They are a guide, not a quotation: the price of your trip depends on the aircraft available on your dates.

At the lower end, very light jets have the lowest hourly cost of any jet, and on a short flight a turboprop costs less again.

What does a typical trip cost?

The hourly rate is only part of the picture, because a trip also carries airport fees and the cost of bringing the aircraft to you. Guide estimates for whole trips in 2026:

TripAircraftGuide price
London to Paris, one wayLight jetAbout €3,500–€8,000
London to Munich and backMidsize jetAbout €8,000–€18,000, including handling and overnight fees
London to Dubai, one wayHeavy or long-range jet€45,000–€120,000
A short European flight of one to two hoursDepends on the size€3,000–€15,000

The spread in each line reflects the aircraft model, the airports chosen, the season and where the aircraft has to fly in from. Your quote is the real figure.

What decides the price?

  • The aircraft. Larger, faster and longer-range aircraft cost more per hour. The simplest saving is the smallest aircraft that does the job comfortably — see which size of private jet do I need?
  • The flying time. A longer flight costs more, in the same way as on an airline.
  • Positioning. If the aircraft is not based where you start, it has to fly in empty, and may fly home empty afterwards. One-way trips can carry that cost; a return with a short stay is often better value, because the aircraft waits for you.
  • The airports. Landing, handling and parking fees differ from airport to airport, and the busiest hubs charge the most.
  • Time on the ground. If the aircraft and crew stay overnight, their overnight costs are part of the price.
  • The date and the notice. Summer weekends to the Mediterranean, the ski season in the Alps and major events push prices up, and a very late request narrows the choice of aircraft.

Is the price per person or for the whole aircraft?

For the whole aircraft. A charter is not priced per seat: the number of passengers matters only because it decides which size of aircraft you need. Filling the seats therefore brings the cost per person down. For illustration, a flight quoted at €6,000 works out at €1,000 each for six passengers.

How can I pay less?

The largest saving is an empty leg: a flight an aircraft has to make anyway, without passengers, to reach its next booking or return to base. Empty legs are often 25 to 75 per cent below the standard charter price. The price of that saving is flexibility: empty legs are one-way, their route and timing are fixed by the original booking, and they can move or disappear if that booking changes. Where an empty leg does not match your journey exactly, Charter-A can sometimes re-route it, saving up to 50 per cent.

  • Be flexible on the date and the departure time.
  • Take the smallest aircraft that fits your party and luggage.
  • Consider a smaller business airport nearby: fees are usually lower and the turnaround quicker.
  • Book a return rather than two one-way flights when the stay is short.
  • Book peak dates early, while there is still a choice of aircraft.

What does the price include?

A Charter-A quote is one fully inclusive figure covering the aircraft and crew, fuel, and standard landing and handling fees, with light snacks and a bar on board. The few things that can be extra — de-icing in winter, special catering, cars — are set out in what is included in the price of a private jet charter.

More questions

How much is a private jet per hour in the UK?

As a guide, from around £2,000 to £3,000 per flying hour for a small jet and £6,000 to £8,000 per hour and upwards for a large or long-range jet. The 2026 market ranges are roughly €1,800–€4,000 an hour for light jets, €3,500–€7,000 for midsize jets and €6,500–€12,000 for super-midsize and heavy jets.

How much does a private jet from London to Paris cost?

As a 2026 guide, about €3,500 to €8,000 one way in a light jet, depending on the airports chosen, the date and where the aircraft is based. Charter-A quotes an exact, fully inclusive price for your date.

Is there a minimum spend or a membership fee?

No. Charter-A arranges flights on demand: there is no membership, no account to open and no fixed minimum spend. You pay for the flight you book.

What is an empty leg flight?

An empty leg is a flight an aircraft must make without passengers, to reach its next booking or return to base. Because it is flying anyway, it is offered at a reduced price — often 25 to 75 per cent below a standard charter. Empty legs are one-way, and their route and timing are fixed by the original booking.

Do I pay VAT on a private jet charter?

As a rule, no VAT is charged on a flight that leaves UK airspace. On a flight within the UK, VAT may apply. Every Charter-A quote states the VAT position for that flight.

Why does the price of the same flight change from week to week?

Because it depends on which aircraft are available on your dates and where they are. That is why a quote carries a validity date, normally seven days from issue.
