Midsize on a midsize route

Sardinia from the London area is a flight of more than two hours, which is the point at which a light jet starts to feel tight and a midsize one earns its price. The aircraft we priced for this run are all one step up.

AircraftSeatsIn the airFrom, one way
Citation XLS+Up to 92 hr 25 min£20,025 · the lowest price, up to nine seats
Citation VIIUp to 82 hr 25 min£21,725 · an earlier design with a similar cabin
Citation Sovereign+Up to 92 hr 25 min£24,400 · the super-midsize, with the largest hold

Each price is for the whole aircraft, one way, and includes our fee; there is no UK VAT. The quotes were obtained in October 2026, so they are guides to a summer figure, not a promise of one. July and August, and especially the weekends around Porto Cervo events, cost the most; June and September are noticeably more affordable. A return is priced as a return.

How the three differ

The Citation XLS+ is the cheapest, takes up to nine, cruises at about 441 knots and has a 90 cubic foot hold: about 2 hr 25 min for this flight. The Citation VII, the earlier design with a similar cabin, cruises a touch faster at about 460 knots and has a smaller 51 cubic foot hold. The Sovereign+ is a super-midsize with a 100 cubic foot hold, the one to choose if you are bringing a villa’s worth of luggage and sports equipment. The midsize jets page and the super-midsize page show the classes.

Farnborough, a morning airport

Farnborough is the UK’s largest dedicated business aviation airport, with one terminal, customs on site, and a 2,440 metre runway. It is open 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends, which is why a Sardinian arrival and a late departure need a conversation about times. It is under an hour from central London by car and 12 minutes by helicopter: helicopter charter to Farnborough. A chauffeur can meet you at the aircraft door; see Farnborough Airport chauffeur service. The airport page is here, and Charter-A.com has its own Farnborough page.

Landing on the Costa Smeralda

Olbia’s runway is 2,740 metres, the airport is open 24 hours, and Italian customs are on site. Eccelsa Aviation’s private terminal on Via dei Ricercatori opens from 07:00 to 22:00, with out-of-hours arrivals by request. The town is about ten minutes by car and Porto Cervo some 30 to 40 minutes beyond it. The Olbia page, the Sardinia page and Charter-A.com’s Olbia airport guide have the rest. If you are heading east instead of south, Farnborough to Athens is the sister route, and for a shorter hop Liverpool to Ibiza.
